Workshop on the reduction of emissions: Combining security of supply with clean air

On a workshop, hosted jointly by the Energy Community Secretariat and the regional Cooperation Council (RCC), on 25 and 26 October 2010 in Sarajevo, the ground was prepared for implementation in the Contracting Parties of the EU legislation (Directive 2001/80EC, Directive 1999/32/EC) aimed at reducing emissions from power plants and refineries. Given the prevalence of electricity produced by old coal-fired power plants in South East Europe, the question of reducing their emissions by means of rehabilitation or decommissioning is crucial both in terms of the improvement of the air quality and the security of electricity supply.
